Are you Welcome Here?

July 4th, 2005 by Bob Christensen

What is the America we know and love? Ask this question to 10 people and you will get a variety of opinions. Here is mine.

America is a welcoming place. America is different country as it will suffer to protect your welcome here, you who are unwelcome elsewhere and are seeking a better life. It will and should accept the poor, the suffering and the homeless who are seeking a better life.

America is the beautiful, the land of the free. It is a nation respectful of diversity of faith, indivisible and for justice for all. Not just for the rich and white folk that control our industries, oil, food and opportunity.

We are a nation of laws for every free man within our borders. This is an evolving yet timeless ideology. What is “free” today is different than it was in 1776. Our Constitution is a “living” and breathing document. We need to do different things today to continue to be the home of the free and brave.

The Constitution was intended to be the plan for a welcoming place for a free society. Let us get back to the basics. Our land should be free and welcoming and we must fight to maintain it
