At a post meeting meeting tonight, I posited the question to my friend and colleague, Jim Miller as follows: “When will we see a nominee for the Supreme Court of the United States that is a graduate of Hamline Law School?” Warren Burger was a graduate of the St. Paul College of Law, now known as William Mitchell College of Law. He was good enough for the Court. It is not the pedigree that makes the jurist. It is rather the heart, soul and passion for equal justice under the law that makes the finest jurist. Where does Sam Alito fit in?
We are used to getting Harvard, Yale, elite, corporate interests, and elite and if it is good for business it is good for all of us, and if you are not making it is is your own damn fault………from our judicial appointments. Education, some educated people have educated me to understand comes from life experience and the result of the yearning soul for justice for the common man. Let us hope that the soul of prospective Justice Alito is learned and revealed as we seek a jurist that respects the living Constitution that respects the rights of every American under the law.
