3 Day Cancer Walk Fundraiser a Success

June 24th, 2006 by Bob Christensen

Cindy Christensen would like to thank all who have generously supported her in financially contributing to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund at the Wine Affair hosted by winemaster Jimmy Keeler from Lowry Hill and Lakeside Liquors on June 23, 2006.

Some who attended were surprised to learn that each participant in the 3-day, 60 mile walk beginning on August 18 is obligated to raise $2,200 in order to participate. Thanks to many family members and friends who have helped Cindy surpass her goal as they tasted wine and enjoyed the conversation of a fine summer evening.

Jim and Cheryl Tibesar from Plymouth were surprised to learn that Craig Goudy played football in the same state let alone the same conference as Lake City. Julie Goudy could only listen on in disbelief as the yarns of her spouse of 32 years were spinning further and further afield. Lindsey Christensen and Nick Tibisar showed up late following a wedding and stayed to the end.
And speaking of spinning, Nick Foreman showed some moves that the Crusher had never mastered after his bride Julie had had enough of the evening. Jim Miller showed up just in time to say goodbye to Jim Betz and Linda Lankow and to save the day as Foreman was ready to take on all challengers in a food fight.

Nick Christensen provided some nice guitar work and captured the attention of the late night crowd including Bill & Cathy Dessert and Pat & Lois Gallagher.

Tim Pellizzer and Brenda Johnson came early and stayed late as did Tom & Meg Meyers, Thom & Marcia Berkowitz and John & Becky Ofstehage. It was really great to see them! None of us are getting out enough. Dave & Deb Irvin were welcomed later in the evening and Deb handled her wine with class. Seeing Dave holding a glass of wine was as bizarre as his attendance at a DFL convention.
Former neighbors and good friends Linda Johnson and Ray Mirshekari, Candy McDonald and Barb & Jim Pratt stopped by to share Christensen stories and other sordid tales with Ralph & Maureen Bartolotta who have yet to see the light and move away. Jim & Susan VanderLinden enjoyed seeing Brad & Diny Anderson and helped Gary & Judy Lewis celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.

Jimmy Keeler continued to educate the wine crowd including Chris Stewart, Carol Cooksley,Tom Beedem and Alicia but had to leave early and the collective IQ of the affair sustained a dramatic hit thereby. It was great to see Elaine Knodt and Mame Beihoffer who enjoyed seeing their cousin and niece, Callie Christensen, actually working this summer and doing a good job keeping the food table and ice replenished for the guests, along with Callie’s friends, Kelsi Mensing and Jaime Tsurusaki, who did a great job helping out.

For those that did not attend but have graciously and generously supported this worthy cause, Cindy would like to extend her hearfelt thanks.
